I would like to add a filter to the automatically generated link to a
certain page

For example:....&tx_ttproducts_pi1[cat]=2

I cannot find a way to do it.

in this case you should rather set the "default piVars" in your TS.
Different settings for different pages can be achieved by TS Conditions
(e.g. PIDinRootline) or extension templates.

Try:
plugin.tt_products_pi1._DEVAULT_PI_VARS.cat = 2

I have tried it and it did not work.

Could you point me to some documentation about _DEVAULT_PI_VARS, please? I
searched the documentation but I did not find anything about it.
