[TYPO3] powerful forum (messageboard) tool?

I've been using the WEC Discussion board extension on my site, but it
is very limited. I was thinking of using phpBB but I don't really have
any confidence in the extensions that are available (or the lack of
their documentation).

Has anyone had any experience setting up a forum on a typo3 site with
success? what is a possible solution?

could someone share their experiences & suggestions to what the best
messageboard solution is?

AND is there a forum that is compatible with the FE user registration
extension (sr_feuser_register)?

chc_forum runs fine as far as I am concerned, but I haven't such a
large experience with forums. All I can say is that one of our client
has been running it for 2 years and never complained

I suggest you the chc_forum. It's very complete and can share the
fe_users.

We use it in a lot of projects without any problem!

chc_forum is quite bad and there is a good solution mm_forum. Not in TER
yet but you can get it here: http://www.typo3.net/mm_forum/index.html

the forum http://www.typo3.net/forum/ is built with this extension

I can't say "no", but I can say that we never experienced problems
(also with public forums).

In any case you can restrict posting to registered users or you can
use moderated forums.

It seems a nice forum. Is there a manual with all the features
supported? Do you know why it's not in the ER?

Dear Dave,

It depends what you want to do with CHC_FORUM. AFAIK it has some strong
limitations on editing and on files you can upload in messages.

PHPBB it does not look that bad and there is an extension in TER to
integrate it with TYPO3.

it is still alpha and will be soon in TER, a manual is inside the ext as
